The NEW BMW X4 (G02) is on the roads - review. Can the X4 Tow?
If you don't like to attract too much attention on the roads - stay away from the new BMW X4.
No matter what you think of the X4’s coupé looks, they certainly ensure it stands out, much like the X6.
X4 is a bit less practical than the more conventional X3. While the X4 is based on the same platform as the current X3, the new X4 is lower, wider and, more importantly, gets specific chassis tuning that makes it far more fun to pilot.
The new X4 has a 54mm longer wheelbase, with a body 37mm wider, and generally 81mm longer than its predecessor.
Along with its coupe looks, BMW has given the X4 a sportier suspension tune and a 30mm wider rear track than the X3, in an attempt to put the 'sports' into sports utility vehicle.
There’s loads of space in the front, while rear leg room also impresses. However, the X4’s plunging, coupé-like roofline forces six-footers to slouch in the rear seats or sit with their heads pushed up against the rooflining.
The well-shaped boot is big enough to swallow several large suitcases with ease, while the rear seats lie flat when folded down to make it easy to load longer items. BMW advises that boot space is 25 litres better than before, now at 525 litres altogether.
There’s no doubt the new X4 is a vastly improved thing over its predecessor. It’s probably the closest thing yet to a BMW sedan experience from an SUV in this segment.
But can it tow? BMW has rated the new X4 at max 2500kgs - check your owners manual as ratings are spec specific. Our detachable G02 BMW X4 towbar fits all models including M pack and M40i. Available late Nov 2018. Pre-order your new BMW X4 towbar today.
