The new-generation Volkswagen Golf is the most technically advanced model to date – with a full suite of advanced safety features as standard across the range.
The new Golf models come standard with a complete suite of safety tech dubbed IQ driver assistance and include city and highway speed autonomous emergency braking (AEB), intersection AEB, radar cruise control, blind zone warning and rear cross-traffic alert.
Inside, the slick dashboard is almost completely devoid of buttons and you get a pair of high-resolution digital displays instead of a central infotainment system and a set of analogue dials.
All Golf 8 models have a digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment screen, as well as wireless Apple Car Play and wireless Android Auto – and fast-charging USB-C ports.
The Golf has plenty of head room to suit even the exceedingly tall, and its front seats go back far enough to accommodate those with long legs. It's wide in the front, too, so you won’t be clashing elbows with your passenger.
The Golf’s interior dimensions allow a pair of six-footers to sit relatively comfortably in the back. Head room is very generous, although leg room isn't outstanding; if the front-seat occupants slide their seats fully back, taller folks in the rear won't have much space in front of their knees.
There’s room in the boot for the weekly food shop and you can just about squeeze in a small set of golf clubs or a fold-up baby buggy. However, the boot space is average for the class. Need more space or to take the bikes on a weekend trip, why not fit a Golf 8 towbar. With the Invisible model, no bumper cuts are necessary and the bar is out of sight when not in use.
So how much can the new VW Golf 8 tow? VW has rated the Golf 8 up to 2000kgs. Not bad for a small hatch.
The VW Golf MK8 is an excellent family car that’s easy to drive, spacious and well equipped.
