Can the 2nd Generation Evoque (L551) tow?

The 2nd Generation Evoque (L551) is now on the roads, it's bigger inside, more competent on the road and more grown up - but can the new Evoque tow?

At first glance, it’s immediately apparent Range Rover hasn’t deviated too far from the previous car’s successful formula. It still looks like an Evoque, that sloping roof line hinting at coupe-like proportions.

The design, both outside and in the cabin, is clean and uncluttered.

The second-generation Evoque has addressed the most common complaint of the first-gen Evoque, namely the cramped confines of the second row. But with this new generation sitting on a longer wheelbase (by 20mm) and with some creative interior repackaging, that second row is now spacious enough for those consigned to the rear seats.  If you need more space or have a couple of bikes to tow around, why not extend the cargo capacity by fitting a towbar to your new Evoque.

Headroom, too, is excellent, despite the sloping roofline. It feels much bigger inside than its exterior proportions suggest – like the Tardis from Doctor Who - a bit of trivia: the name means "Time And Relative Dimension In Space".

Boot capacity is also up thanks to a new multi-link suspension set-up at the rear wheels, the cargo area is widened by 20cm. Boot capacity is now at 591L, up from 575L in the outgoing model.

Tech-savvy buyers of the Evoque expect the latest in infotainment, and they will not be disappointed.

The designers have nailed their brief: to evolve the style-focussed Evoque into an even more stylish and refined SUV.

The bad news is that the extra cute former three-door and niche convertible variants are no more.

The new-generation Evoque takes everything that was good about the old model and improves on it, the new Evoque's towing capacity has also increased from 1800 kgs to 2100kgs.
