Jeep's 1st attempt to make a dent in the EV market. At 4.08 metres in length, The Avenger is Jeep's smallest car to date at about 4 metres long and it will compete in the growing mini SUV segment.
The Jeep Avenger sticks to the brand's trademark rugged image. It actually looks pretty funky, which helps it stand out in today’s crowded SUV market.
None of its direct rivals can offer the same level of off-road ability.
To ensure the Avenger could handle the occasional off-roading, Jeep’s engineers added stiffer dampers, extra underbody protection and increased the car’s ride height to 200mm. its off-road capabilities are aided by a 20-degree approach, 20-degree break over and 32-degree departure angles and underbody skid plates to protect the battery.
They also made the Avenger’s front and rear overhangs as short as possible and implemented a sophisticated traction control system that promises to keep the front wheels turning even when the going gets tough. It has dedicated settings for sand, mud and snow.
You’ll find it easy to get comfortable behind the wheel, thanks to lots of adjustments in the seat and steering wheel. A minimalist yet funky interior design adds to the character of the Jeep Avenger. A simple dashboard layout is contrasted with a panel of body-coloured dashboard trim - inspired by the Wrangler. All versions of the Jeep Avenger are equipped with a 10.3-inch infotainment system, along with a crisp digital driver’s display - it’s user-friendly and also comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It even has a built-in wireless smartphone charger.
Entry-level cars come with a 7.0in driver’s display as standard, while Altitude and Summit trims get a 10.25in display. The 10.25in version is configurable, so you can quickly change between functions for the navigation, media and driving information.
Thankfully, the Avenger has a row of physical buttons for the climate controls, which makes it easy to adjust functions (such as the air-con and temperature) while driving.
A lot of plastic, but it is meant to be rugged after all. The part of the Jeep Avenger’s cabin is the amount of storage available - about 34 litres of space between the various cubbies. The central storage can itself hold up to 15 litres of gear - enough to make a smallish bag and water bottles disappear out of sight. It even has a built-in wireless smartphone charger,
City driving is where the Jeep Avenger feels most at home. Visibility is excellent all-round, and light steering makes it super easy to manoeuvre. The soft suspension does well to absorb any bumps, and the 360-degree camera on higher-spec models looks very crisp on the screen, adding to what is already an easy car to park anywhere.
The Avenger features a 54kWh battery pack and a 156hp electric motor mounted on the front axle. Jeep says that’s enough for a 0–100kms/h time of 9.6 seconds. Charging speeds max out at 100kW on compatible DC chargers, topping the car up to 80% in about 30 minutes. Jeep claims 400km of driving range in combined (city and highway) driving for the production model, or up to 550km in urban areas.
The boot is 355 litres with rear seats in place and with the rear seats folded flat 1,053 litres, you have to remember it is a very small car. A towbar will definitely be needed to increase the Avenger's practicality or to take your bikes along on the next weekend trip. Jeep has rated the EV Avenger at a maximum of 1200kgs, our towbars are rated the same.
Safety tech fitted as standard to the car includes automatic emergency braking, hill descent control and rear parking sensors. Top-spec cars come with adaptive cruise control (and this can be optioned on other models), which automatically adjusts the car’s speed on the motorway to maintain a set distance from the vehicle ahead when active.
At its first effort in the EV market, Jeep has created a city-friendly electric car with the Avenger. Stand-out looks and an excellent interior add to an effortless city-driving experience. You'll need a towbar to add space and practicality, but we have that covered. Order your Avenger towbar today.
