The new X2 looks completely different,  a dramatically sloping roofline, plus a tall SUV stance and eye-catching styling make the new X2 stand out from the crowd.

The new BMW X2 has grown by 194mm in length over its predecessor, to 4,554mm. This means the model also stretches 54mm beyond the BMW X1. Its wheelbase is now 2,692mm (+ 22mm), and it also stands 21mm wider, at 1,845mm. Wider tracks at both the front and rear, together with the larger-diameter wheels, give the new BMW X2 a broader, muscular stance on the road. The vehicle height is 1,590mm, up 64mm compared with its predecessor.

Inside, the new X2 looks and feels high quality - the dash is trimmed in expensive looking materials and dominated by a huge swathe of glass covering a pair of pin-sharp displays for driver information and infotainment. 
Unfortunately, everything through the touchscreen - including the climate controls.  As standard, there are wireless forms of both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The X2’s front seats are sporty, and keep you secure during hard cornering. They are customisable - not only do you get the usual adjustments, but there’s an extendable seat base to better support people with longer legs.
Despite the X2’s sporty shape there’s a surprising amount of space in the back seats.

The dash comprises of lots of curved glass under which sits a pair of displays - a 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a 10.7-inch digital instrument panel.  An optional Technology Pack brings an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, adaptive LED lights, the aforementioned wireless charging pad and keyless entry. For a bit extra you can get the Technology Plus pack, which has a head-up display, BMW’s augmented-reality navigation system, and the ‘Iconic Glow’ illuminated grille. A Harman Kardon audio system is also available as an option.
The new BMW Operating System 9 home screen continuously displays the navigation system’s map view or other individually configurable graphics. The QuickSelect feature allows functions to be activated directly without having to enter a submenu, while a tap on the home icon on the control display is all it takes to return to the home screen. Icons for direct access to the climate control menu, All Apps menu, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ can also now be found next to the home icon.

Boot space depends on which model you go for - the M35i has a 560-litre boot, but on the 20i this is reduced to 515 litres thanks to the presence of a mild hybrid system under the floor.  The seats fold in a useful 40:20:40 split, so you can have two people sat in the back and still have space between them for longer loads. When they’re folded, they sit almost totally flat, with no lip between the boot and the seat backs.  
With all the seats in use, the new BMW X2 can accommodate 560 litres of cargo, 90 litres more than its predecessor. The load compartment’s capacity can be expanded to 1,470 litres (+ 115 litres). The mild hybrid BMW X2 sDrive20i has a reduced boot capacity of 515 – 1,400 litres due to the presence of a mild hybrid system under the floor.

Safety equipment for the X2 is good, with the latest version of its autonomous emergency braking system even able to warn the driver of pedestrians or cyclists travelling parallel to the car that might be in the way when turning.
