Mercedes has finally delivered an electric midsize luxury crossover, which should prove popular for upmarket school runs.

The EQE SUV adopts a similar design lineage seen on the larger EQS SUV, but thankfully it least eye-catching of the EQ range.
Distinguishing features include a signature black panel grille, which comes in either standard black or with an optional three-pointed star pattern. 
There are also uniquely styled headlamps and a new-look bonnet with differing shut lines to those seen on the larger EQS SUV. 

At 4863mm in length, 1849mm in width and 1686mm in height, the EQE SUV is 262mm shorter, 19mm narrower and 32mm lower than the EQS SUV. It also uses a wheelbase that is 180mm shorter at 3030mm. 

The EQE SUV is Mercedes-Benz’s most aerodynamically efficient SUV model to date, with a claimed drag coefficient of only 0.25.

The cabin is similar in style to that of the EQE saloon, with most of its materials fittingly upmarket in feel, quality and ambience. 
Finding a comfortable driving position is easy, with electrical adjustment for the front seats and steering column. The seats feel sofa-like and thickly padded, with electrically adjustable lumbar support on all trim levels.  The flat floor combines with the long wheelbase to give a good deal of accommodation, particularly in the rear, with passengers enjoying lots of leg, head and shoulder room.

The driver gets a 12.3-inch digital display that’s fully configurable and can show multiple layouts for the dials, trip and media information, as well as navigation information. The dashboard is uncluttered and features a lot of space but is headlined by the portrait-style touchscreen multimedia system and 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The air vents resemble aeroplane jet turbines.
Additionally, the car gets a super impressive ambient lighting system that is configurable in myriad ways, and it ups the interior presentation at night time.

An interesting option is a 12.3-inch passenger display. The passenger display supports gaming and streaming video via the internet. It can be operated on the run, but only for viewing by the front seat passenger. A camera continuously monitors the eye movement of the driver; when he or she attempts to view the passenger display, the content is hidden.  

The EQE SUV offers 520 litres of boot space in the EQE SUV. Fold the rear seats flat and there's 1675 litres. Under the flat floor is a 90.6kWh (useable) battery pack, which allows the EQE SUV to boast a maximum range on a charge of 544km. Mercedes-Benz claims a 0–100km/h time of 6.6sec.  At the top end of the range, the dual-motor four-wheel-drive EQE53 4Matic+ from Mercedes-Benz’s AMG performance car division boasts 460kW and a claimed 0–100km/h time of just 3.5 sec. 

Charging speeds are capped at 170kW for DC, while the ability to charge on a three-phase AC port is also available. Surprisingly, Mercedes-Benz includes both a home charge cable and a separate AC charge cable with each car.  A 10-80% charge should take 31 minutes if you can find a suitably powerful charging point, while a full charge using a 7kW home wall box charger will take around 14 hours.

The EQE SUV boasts more than token off-road ability. There’s a nominal 169mm of ground clearance, but this can be increased by 25mm with an optional Off-Road package on models using the Airmatic air suspension. Beyond this, there’s also an optional transparent bonnet function that displays the terrain underneath the front wheels within the infotainment display.  

Each new EQE SUV receives 10 airbags.  Standard driving assistant systems include an updated version of Mercedes-Benz’s Attention Assist, together with Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist as well as a Parking Package with a reversing camera and Speed Limit Assist,  also available are blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree camera, driver attention warning, and traffic sign recognition.
