Can the VW ID5 Coupe tow? Maximum ID5 EV towing capacity. Need an ID5 towbar?

The VW ID5 is an electric family SUV that is a sleek and sporty coupe - decent range and an excellent safety rating.

Sitting on a wheelbase of around 2.8m, there is a reasonable amount of spare inside the ID.5’s cabin. Leg and headroom in the second row is good, but headroom can be a little compromised due to the swooping roofline of the second row.

The ID5’s 549-litre boot is actually slightly larger than the ID4’s. It expands to 1561 litres with the second row folded. Need to carry more, or take your bikes along on the next weekend away? Why not fit our invisible VW ID5 towbar? VW has rated the VW ID5 for a maximum of 1400 kg, depending on your specifications.

The infotainment touchscreen is a 12.0-inch display that includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with inbuilt satellite navigation. It is sharp, responsive, and the colours are bright without being too busy. Loading speeds are a big plus, and plotting a route is fast.

The digital instrument panel moves with the steering wheel, so it’s always within view of the driver, it's an innovative idea and doesn’t overload you with graphics or data, you just get the essentials.

The VW ID 5 is available with either one or two electric motors. The entry-level Match model gets one motor, giving you 282bhp and 6.7secs to 100kms. If you want more speed and performance-the ID 5 GTX will be the one for you. It receives an extra electric motor, giving it four-wheel drive and power is increased to 335bhp. The result is a 0-100 in just 5.4 seconds.

All versions of the ID 5 have a 77kWh battery. Volkswagen claims a combined energy consumption figure of 17.1kWh/100km and a driving range of up to 490km on the WLTP cycle. The new rear motor being fitted to the ID.5 in 2024 is also expected to improve driving range. Plug the ID5 into a 7kW home wallbox charger, and you’ll top its battery up from 0-100% in just over 12 hours. Find a 130kW public charger, and you’ll be able to take it from 10-80% capacity in half an hour.

Safetywise, it comes with automatic emergency braking (AEB), lane-keeping assistance, a driver fatigue monitor, eCall emergency response and traffic-sign recognition. All models come with the Assistance pack plus, which comprises of adaptive cruise control, lane-change assist and Park Assist Plus.
Safety experts Euro NCAP gave the ID 5 the highest rating, five stars, and it did well for child-occupant protection in particular.

NB. The 2024 update will include power bump and improved energy efficiency. The Volkswagen ID.5 adds another choice to the growing electric coupe-like SUV class. Increase the ID5s practicality and be sure to fit our VW ID5 towbar.
