The Cupra Formentor is Seat's/VW's standalone performance brand.   If you want to stand out from the crowd and drive something different from your neighbour,  the Cupra Formentor is definitely worth a look.

Sharp and shapely, the Formentor makes a massive first impression. It’s a good looking five-door hot hatch with a touch of coupe-ish elegance and a dash of extra ground clearance.

The Formentor measures 4,450mm long and 1,839mm wide. Cupra isn’t really calling it an SUV, and its height is only 1,511mm

Cupra is being positioned as a sporty, premium brand - even the base model, 1463kg Formentor walks the walk, with a taut suspension that keeps the body well lashed down in corners. Ride quality is firm but not harsh, and this pays back with decent dynamics and handling.  It’s a genuinely quick and agile car, a crossover that drives just like a hot hatch. 0-100km/h in 4.9 secs.

The steering feels light, responding nicely to inputs. And the MacPherson strut front end generates loads of grip, and there's an innate sense of stability: line up a sweeping corner, and you can jiggle the steering with adjustments as you get back hard on the power, and the Formentor hauls you through. It's sprightly and enjoyable.  This flagship Formentor has five drive modes: Comfort, Sport, Cupra, Individual and Off-Road. You can toggle through them using the circular button on the bottom left of the sporty steering wheel.

Inside the cabin feels unique from the bottom to the top of the range. Every model has a crisp, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with six different, selectable layouts available, while there’s also a 12.3-inch touch-screen in the centre of the dash to control most of the onboard functions.  The latter runs the standard navigation (with connected features including live updates to traffic, parking and fuel station prices), wireless Apple CarPlay and digital radio. Also standard are wireless charging, four USB-C charging sockets, keyless entry, 18-inch black and silver alloys, cruise control, lane assist and automated emergency braking.  You also get voice control in the Formentor. To wake it up, you have to brush up on your Spanish and state “Hola, Hola”, followed by commands such as “I’m cold” and it should turn up the heater. 

Everything looks and feels of high quality. In line with its sporty-driving mission, the front seats have deep bolsters for cornering support. Also, a great amount of room for taller passengers in the back even considering the sloping roofline.  There is even a strip of ambient led lighting which allows you to tailor the interior to your mood.  There are of course premium design touches inside to emphasise the Cupra design theme; neat bronze lines adorning numerous parts of the dash, smart bronze stitching for the leather seats front and rear and a lovely-to-the-touch leather steering wheel, also with bronze stitching.
