While it’s technically an update to the Discovery Sport that came out in 2015- 70 per cent of all the parts in this 2020 model are new, it's actually a major makeover.
There are changes everywhere you look and feel, from the chunkier nose to a quieter cabin. The new Discovery Sport has had every body panel except the bonnet, roof and tailgate replaced. It now sits on top of the brand’s new C-SUV architecture that it shares with the new Range Rover Evoque.
From the outside, the changes are subtle but extensive. There are new headlights with a Discovery daytime running light signature. Add in a new grille with a lower and wider mouth, and the visual mass of the car is pushed further down to portray a sportier SUV.
The outgoing model was a bit underdone in the cabin and the newcomer is now more like a Range Rover. There is no visible plastic in the cabin, with lashings of leather and even carpet on the bottom level of the centre console.
For the 2020 models, the seven-seat option has become standard - so boot space is limited. Fitting a towbar will definitely give you options for your gear when planning a trip. Unfortunately, the designers failed to increase the gap between the bumper and spare tyre, which means that once again the bumper must be modified if you intend to tow. The new Discovery Sport is rated up to 2200kgs - but do check your owners manual as the towing capacity is directly related to your exact specifications/options.
Overall, the new 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport is a huge improvement over its predecessor – it’s priced well to compete in a very tough segment. The improvements to its interior are substantial and bring the model into the modern world where it now competes on an equal footing with its German rivals.
If you are thinking of towing with your new Landrover Discovery Sport, then we have you covered. We have a range of towbars now available for the 2nd generation Discovery Sport.
