Finally a towbar for the Mazda 3 sedan.  What is the maximum towing capacity of the 4th generation Mazda 3 sedan BP?

While the hatch has grabbed all the headlines, let us not forget about the 4-door Mazda 3 sedan.  Sedans have no doubt lost a lot of sales thanks to SUVs, but they do look more elegant.  The wheelbase is the same length as the hatch, but the sedan is 20mm longer overall, the rear seats are not as claustrophobic as the hatch and rear vision improves markedly.  You'll be surprised to learn they share very few external parts, other than their bonnet and windscreen.

The BP Mazda 3 Sedan is an affordable new car that gives you a generous number of technology and comfort features.   The upmarket styling cues suit the sedan, which represents the Japanese brands’ luxury push. Best of all it's available with a manual gearbox, that will make SUCV drivers feel like they are driving a sporty MX-5.

Like previous generation Mazda 3s, the new model is great to drive. Its handling is excellent, with great grip, good feel through the steering wheel and excellent balance from the chassis.

The new Mazda 3 was released, with a substantial increase in interior quality, as well as excellent ergonomics and tech integration. The 3s cabin is probably the best in the segment.  It's hard to find any plastic-looking materials like its rivals, most surfaces are covered in a soft touch material. The dashboard, door tops (in both rows), centre console, and seats are all covered in lovely soft materials.

The uncluttered dashboard is easy to use, with physical buttons for all the functions you're likely to need a lot, including the climate controls. That makes operating them while driving far easier than in some rival cars, which require you to use a touchscreen menu or fiddly touch-sensitive buttons.

In the centre of the cabin is an 8.8-inch widescreen infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation and digital radio. It’s not a touchscreen, which annoys some, but the slick controller wheel between the front seats is easy to use. The graphics are sharp, the sound system is solid

The back seat of the Mazda 3 sedan is reasonably spacious, unlike the tight rear seat of the hatchback.  The boot is 444 litres versus 334 litres for the hatch, the rear seat split folds 60:40 for more space.  You might consider fitting a towbar to take more with you or drag the bikes along on your next weekend away.  We now have a full range of Mazda 3 sedan towbars available. Mazda has rated the 3 for a max of 1860kgs - not bad.

Safety systems are extensive and include seven airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, rear auto braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, a reversing camera with rear parking sensors, a heads-up display, auto high beam, driver attention monitoring, tyre pressure monitoring, traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality.

Buyers can upgrade to a higher safety pack, which includes a 360-degree parking camera, lane trace assist, front parking sensors, front cross-traffic alert and extended driver monitoring.

Mazda’s value is its strength thanks to its extensive standard safety equipment that competitors struggle to match. It’s excellent quality, reasonably practical, good to drive, well equipped, and doesn’t cost a fortune to buy or service.  Best of all the design gives it a great road presence.
