Maserati’s first attempt at an SUV, now updated went on sale two years ago, but has now been tweaked.  Can the Levante tow?

 

If the thought of even a Porsche Cayenne seems a bit too common and predictable, that’s where the Levante steps in. It’s not an SUV you see every day!

 

The best bit is that the Levante is practical, which is surely a fundamental expectation of an SUV.

 

Who wouldn't want a Trident grille that can tow and has a large maximium towing capacity.

 

Inside, the base Levante lacks the vibrancy of an up-spec Gran Lusso with silk trim, but swathes of leather upholstery with exposed stitching, padded-leather door inserts and piano-black highlights make the Levante feel more bespoke than it's competitors.

 

The Levante, definitely, doesn’t mind shouting its heritage or its credentials. That seductive, car-like grille, sweeping side window shape, loud, frameless doors and proud Trident motifs.

 

The Levante does a surprisingly fine job packaging four adults and their accompanying luggage with relative ease. There’s enough leg- and head-room to easily seat four full-size adults, and its 580-litre boot can be expanded to 1625 litres if you flip the rear-seat backrests forward to an almost-flat position.  Need more space, why not fit an Invisible Levante towbar.

 

Some may consider towing to be at odds with Maserati’s elegant image, but as a large SUV, the Levante is more than capable of hauling a caravan, horsebox or boat trailer weighing up to a hefty 2,700kg
