The all-New Renault Kangoo Van has won the International Van of the Year award (IVOTY) 2022 as voted by a jury of 24 European journalists.  Renault’s latest innovative van was recognised, as the best LCV out of the 14 light-duty vehicles released over the past 12 months.

The new, 10 years in the making, third-generation Kangoo replaces the second-generation model – which sits on underpinnings dating back to 2002 – bringing with it a new look, overhauled interior, more efficient engines, and a range of active safety features.

The All-New Kangoo Van is aimed mainly at corporate fleets, tradespeople, and business owners, looking for a tailor-made vehicle that boasts the latest technology and innovation to suit their business needs. The innovative van, with an athletic and dynamic style, features:

A ground-breaking innovation known as ‘Open Sesame by Renault’*; where the B-pillar is removed allowing for a large right-hand side door that spans 1.45 metres, the largest side access on the market. As well as the ‘Easy Inside Rack’, a retractable interior rack to safely store long objects high up for better use of the main storage space.

On the outside, the new Kangoo draws close links to Renault's latest passenger cars and SUVs – after all, it rides on the same CMF-B platform as the new Captur.

The old Kangoo was ageing pretty badly, but the new model has improved proportions, with a shorter bonnet and squarer lines. There's still a large Renault badge on the nose - which will continue to cover the charging socket on the all-electric Kangoo e-Tech – while C-shaped daytime running lights also make an appearance. At the back, there's the traditional offset barn door layout, but the left-hand door is wider than before, to help boost access in tight spots.

Inside, the Kango benefits from the same technology you'll find in the current Renault passenger car range.  An 8.0-inch touchscreen offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, joining a steering wheel borrowed from the Captur, three USB ports, a 15-watt wireless smartphone charger, dual-zone automatic climate control, and push-button start on flagship grades.

Build quality is a clear step forward for the Kangoo, and some of the touchpoints feel a lot more upmarket in material quality than before. Yes there are still hard-wearing plastics to be found, but overall this is a van that feels a lot more solid than its predecessor.

Practicality highlights inside include up to 60 litres of cabin storage (including a drawer under the passenger seat), lumbar seat adjustment, a driver's door that can open 90 degrees and, in the three-seat version, a centre seat that can fold to become a desk, with an A4 document clip and cup holder.

The new Renault Kangoo will be available in two body lengths, offering cargo volumes of 3.3 to 3.9 cubic metres for the standard version and 4.2-4.9m³ for the long version. – the latter wheelbase enabling a class-leading 3548mm load length, and an 864mm "extra-wide" side door.

Payloads range between 600kg and 1000kg, depending on variant and wheelbase, with up to 1500kg of towing capacity on offer.

Two-seat, standard-wheelbase models offer a new 'Open Sesame' feature, which sees the passenger side B-pillar removed for a class-leading 1446mm load opening, aided by a swivelling passenger seat. However, this system is seemingly only available on left-hand-drive models at the moment.

Engine-wise, there are two petrol versions 1.3 TCe 100 and 130 hp, linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Promising a consumption of 6.7L/100. Available in a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
On the Diesel side, the new Kangoo is available in a 1.5 blue dCi 75, 95 and a 115 hp version.
Naturally, EV trends require a Kangoo e-Tech electric version to be available too - which should keep fleet costs down.
