The latest Skoda Octavia has upped its game in the quality department, it is just as practical and family-friendly as ever, but can it tow? Need a towbar for your 2020 4th Gen Octavia? 

With the latest 4th generation Octavia, there’s all of the usual functionality, but this time there’s a smart new look and up-to-date infotainment systems, while the cabin quality feels more upmarket than before. 

Plenty of space up front in the Octavia liftback/hatch; very tall drivers will certainly be able to get comfortable even with the panoramic glass roof fitted.
The new Octavia is pretty generous on rear-seat space, too. Behind a tall driver with their seat pushed back, even taller passengers will be able to lounge in comfort, and there’s loads of elbow room. 

Storage is better than in most rivals, too: the door pockets are a good enough size to take a 1.5-litre bottle of water and the cooled glovebox is big enough to keep your lunch fresh. 

Skoda offers its ‘Simply Clever’ practical features which help ease the regular day-to-day issues motorists have to face. Little details such as an ice scraper located in the fuel filler cap, a ticket holder on the driver’s side A-pillar, an umbrella stored in the driver’s door, all make life just that bit easier.

The fourth-generation Octavia liftback/hatch leaves a larger footprint than the previous model, with the hatchback being 19mm longer and 15mm wider, too. 

Overall dimensions for the Octavia hatch are 4,689mm (length), 1,829mm (width, excluding mirrors) and 1,470mm (height). The already cavernous boot has increased in volume by 10 litres to 600 litres – absolutely massive, but if you need even more room consider towing with your Skoda and fit a Octavia towbar.

Can the new Octavia tow? The entry-level 1.0 TSI is rated at 1,300kg in terms of braked trailer towing capacity, while the more powerful versions have a maximum towing weight of 1,500kg to 1,800kg, depending on your exact specifications.
