The facelifted XF can now compete with its rivals.  Can the XF tow? Need a Jaguar XF towbar?

The XF has received a make over. Exteriorly all the usual facelift bases have been covered: the front end is sportier, with a more aero-efficient bumper, bigger air intakes and slimmer LED headlights with a ‘double J’ design. The Jaguar logo now finds its way onto the side vents and laser-etched within the headlights. The rear end has an enlarged diffuser and redesigned bumper which enhances its macho stance.

Engine choices have been streamlined. The XF is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that comes in two options: the P250 version with 246 horsepower, and the P300 with 296 hp. Both engines enjoy Jaguar's eight-speed automatic transmission, but only the less powerful one offers rear- or all-wheel drive. The P300 comes exclusively with all-wheel drive.

Inside the new interior is in a different galaxy compared to the previous XF. Gone are the centre-console rotary shifter and the outboard air vents that rotated open in the dashboard. Now, next to the new shift handle rests a drive-mode selector that lowers into the console when not in use. Jaguar overhauled the climate controls, too, with dials that have self-contained temperature settings. The redesigned centre console hosts a new wireless charger, and Jaguar says the space offers increased storage. The front seats are wider than before and have larger heating and cooling areas.

The updated XF recieves the Pivi Pro infotainment system with a curved glass 11.4-inch touchscreen - which is 48% larger than before- over-the-air updates, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity and a 12-speaker Meridian stereo, all come standard. Cabin ambience is ensured by an Active Road Noise Cancellation feature that actively reduces cabin noise while on the move.

The boot offers a decent 459 litres; although it’s mostly all in-depth, as width and height are a little restrictive. Unusually, the rear seat is fixed as standard issue and if you want 40:20:40 split-folding to allow extra load volume- it'll cost extra - available as an option.

In terms of safety features, the facelift XF is equipped with driver aids such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control as well as a Driver Condition Monitor.
