The 5th generation of the iconic Range Rover is on the roads. New RRs come around only every decade, so how does this one shape up?   The L460 showcases the best of British luxury and engineering providing an all-round refined driving experience.  Quality and technology is a massive step up from the old version.

The new Range Rover is 5058mm long, 2209mm wide and 1870mm tall, add 200mm in length for the long wheelbase version.

The design seems a bit Scandanavian - minimalistic, exemplified by the likes of new slim, vertical rear lights – simple LED design that is hidden until lit.  All the panels and metalwork are brand new,  super smoother and less cluttered than the previous model. 
Inside, the theme of minimalism continues with a simple but impeccably finished interior. Horizontal lines dominate the dashboard, with a thin ventilation strip running the full width and a 13.1-inch slightly curved infotainment screen. Thankfully there are still separate a/c controls, as there are for the driver control features, and RR has resisted the trend clog everything on a touch screen. At the centre of the Pivi Pro infotainment system sits a 13.1-inch landscape-orientated touchscreen that is user-friendly, with clear, crisp graphics, no lag and intuitive functionality. It also interacts seamlessly with all the available physical controls.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard, as are in-dash navigation, and wireless smartphone charging. The rear-seat entertainment system with dual 11.4-inch displays is available, as is a Meridian stereo system with 35 speakers and noise-cancelling technology embedded into the headrests.

Land Rover has retained its best in class driving position – nicknamed COMMAND.  You sit pretty high and all the controls are all easy to find and reach, with an unobstructed view outside – front, back and sideways – makes the driver feel like they are the king of the road - visibility is crystal clear, and you can see all the way down to the nose of the car.

You get a 360-degree surround camera as standard, along with all-around parking sensors. On all but the entry-level model, you get a rear-view mirror that, at the touch of a switch, becomes a screen showing the view from the rear of the car. It lets you see behind you even when the boot is fully loaded.  Speaking of which, the Range Rover’s boot space is more than enough for most people. The standard Range Rover offers 725L of boot space and 1841L with the second row folded flat.
The long wheelbase also offers 725L of boot space and a massive 2165L with the second row folded flat. When all seven seats are in use, the seven-seater has 229L of boot space behind the third-row seatbacks or 312L to the roof and 2601L with the second and third rows of seating folded flat.
The Range Rover's split rear tailgate can be used as convenient and comfortable seating for outdoor events and even includes cupholders.

To say it is easy to get comfortable, would be an understatement. There’s a huge range of electrical adjustments available in the steering wheel, and the seats are 20-way electrically adjustable as standard, with 24-way adjustable massaging seats on higher trim levels.

Even in standard wheelbase models, the new Range Rover has a longer wheelbase compared with its predecessor, which adds to the already generous legroom for passengers.

You can choose from six powertrain options, including a plug-in hybrid and the first all-electric Range Rover will be ready in 2024. All engines integrate a faultless eight-speed auto, and the four-wheel drive system is equally efficient on-road and off it.

The ride is tranquil, with next to no road noise. Active electronic air suspension and other high-tech features boost comfort and handling to another level.

The various Terrain Response settings make light work in any offroad situation, while you sit comfortably in your luxury surroundings.  The body stands a lofty 295mm off the ground but can be raised an extra 145mm in the highest of the suspension’s four settings. It also has high approach and departure angles so it doesn't get grounded on steep terrain, and can wade through water up to 900mm deep.

Just a few strokes on the Pivi Pro system and the Range Rover is transformed into an off-road machine.  The air suspension is able to significantly boost ground clearance and the diffs can be locked, low-range selected and the Terrain Response 2 software is set up for whatever terrain you find yourself in. Keep in mind, The hybrid model suffers lower ground clearance due to the underslung battery.

Land Rover offers a host of modern driver-assistance features as standard on the Range Rover, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
